  7. TIPS is a subroutine library containing a text search engine and support
  8. software. The search engine is optimized for environments requiring near
  9. realtime routing of information based on content. In support of this, the text
  10. search engine allows many queries to simultaneously search the text stream
  11. supplied by an application. Additional support functions within TIPS are
  12. provided for query compilation, query error reporting, query file maintenance,
  13. and term highlighting during result display
  14.  
  15. The TIPS query language contains a variety of constructs including boolean
  16. logic, wild cards, multiword search terms, field searching, proximity,
  17. threshold searching (n out of m terms), and numeric ranging
  18.  
  19. The TIPS reference manual provides documentation for the query language,
  20. development guidelines, and function descriptions. The manual also provides
  21. well commented example programs including a command line invoked query
  22. compiler, a search command, and a result browser.
